چکیده

The structural and magnetic properties of the melt-spun Pr2Fe14B/a-Fe nanocomposite powders consolidated via shock-wave compression and subjected to postshock thermal treatment were investigated. Shock compression results in grain refinement, which leads to a reduction of an effective anisotropy and therefore an increase in the ferromagnetic exchange length, resulting in an enhanced exchange coupling in fully consolidated bulk magnets. A small amount of amorphous phase formed during the shock compression were observed to crystallize into Pr2Fe14B upon annealing above 600 °C. The heat treatment also results in the recovery of coercivity partially lost during the consolidation, which can be related directly to the dependence of the effective anisotropy on the grain size, as illustrated by the transmission electron microscopy observation of grain refinement in the shock-consolidated bulk samples. A uniform grain morphology is suggested as a means for further increasing the magnetic properties of bulk nanocomposites. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. [DOI: 10.1063/1.1782956]

Explosive shock processing of Pr2Fe14B/ –Fe exchange-coupled nanocomposite bulk magnets

Explosive shock compaction was used to consolidate powders obtained from melt-spun Pr2Fe14B/ –Fe nanocomposite ribbons, to produce fully dense cylindrical compacts of 17–41-mm diameter and 120-mm length. Characterization of the compacts revealed refinement of the nanocomposite structure, with approximately 15 nm uniformly sized grains. The compact produced at a shock pressure of approximately 1...

Synthesis of Magnesium Ferrite-Silver Nanostructures and Investigation of its Photo-catalyst and Magnetic Properties

In this research we first synthesized MgFe2O4 nanostructures via hydrothermal method using (Mg(NO₃)₂.6H₂O) and (Fe(NO₃)₃.9H₂O). The influence of concentration, surfactant, precipitating agent and temperature on the particle size and magnetic properties of the synthesised nanoparticles were examined. Then MgFe2O4-Ag nanocomposites were prepared by a simple chemical precipitation. The structural ...

Magnetic investigation of microwave synthesized and thermal stable poly vinyl alcohol-cobalt ferrite nanocomposites

We synthesized CoFe2O4 nanoparticles using heating in various times by simple microwave method at power about 600W. Water, ethylene glycol and their combination were used as solvent. X-ray diffraction pattern(XRD) analysis was performed for evaluation of structural characterization of samples. We also used scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the effects of various parameters of heati...

Bulk SmCo5/a-Fe nanocomposite permanent magnets fabricated by mould-free Joule-heating compaction

Bulk SmCo5/a-Fe nanocomposite magnets have been prepared using a Joule-heating compaction technique. Nearly fully dense bulk magnets are obtained by compacting the milled powders under a pressure of 2 GPa at temperatures above 400 C. Structural analysis shows that the grain size of both the SmCo5 and the a-Fe phases is in the range of 10 to 15 nm when the compaction temperature is lower than 50...

Grain-size dependence of intergranular magnetic correlations in nanostructured metals

Magnetic small-angle neutron scattering experiments were performed on nanostructured Fe, Co and Ni samples of varying grain size, produced by inert-gas condensation. The experiments show that the spontaneous spatial magnetic correlations forming in zero-field extend over many individual grains. These correlations depend strongly on grain size. In Fe, they have a minimum at a grain size of aroun...
